SOLVED – on iOS – Jetpack “sorry we can’t log you in. Please update your credentials and try again”.

For months now I have not been able to see my stats or notifications using the WordPress iOS app on iPhone or iPad.

Why. Because after an update; every time I tried to use the ‘stats’  or ‘notifications’ buttons the app kept telling me  “sorry we can’t log you in. Please update your credentials and try again”.

Googling and reading posts on the WordPress support site showed me many others had the same problem. But no concrete  answers were forthcoming…

Sure I could see my site and login to the Admin and click the jetpack button there. Which would show me the stats etc. But doing that just takes me to Mobile Safari. And on an iPhone it is not such nice an experience or interface. Everything is tiny. Pinch zoom, pinch zoom..

Today I finally solved it for me at least and want to share how..

So lets walk though it. It is simple when you now how.

First sign in: to Your account on your Mac or PC.

Using your WordPress account details. ( NOT Your blog  site admin Details) sign in.

If you have Two Step Authentication enabled follow the instructions : and enter the code

Now you should be logged in and you can go to your User account settings.

Click the User icon in the top right and go to Settings.

From there click Security and go to the  Security pane.

In the  pane. You will see.

If you use one of our mobile apps or a third party service that integrates with, you might need to use an Application Password to log in – you can generate passwords using this tool. Once generated, return here to revoke access at any time.

In the Text field type in a made up  Name for the WordPress App on your iDevice. for example: wordPressOnMyiPhone

And the click Generate password.  A new code will be generated. DO NOT Click the done button yet.

Now on your iDevice. Open the WordPress app. And login in if you have not already done so using your blog’s site admin user name and Password details.

Fill in the site URL.

If successful a Jetpack login prompt will pop up.

Or if you were already logged in to your WordPress account.  Click the Notifications button or the Stats button.

At the login prompt. That you should now be in:

Enter your  WordPress Account username.  NOT Your blog  site admin username.

For the password and and some of you may have guest it. User he Generated password that you just generated.

sign in.

That  is it. You should now get in and be able to see you stats and notifications in glorious Technicolor..

You can now click the ‘Done’ button on the web page Security pane.

This worked for me on my iPhone and iPad. I hope it does for you.  You will need to Generate a password for each.

  2. Thanks for the post – having the same problem, but this solve doesn’t seem to work on my android (yet!). I am logged in & can see notifications but at the stats login neither this code nor my wordpress login seem to work. I am using my wordpress login name – is there another that I should use for this second jetpack login?
